Waterfowl is abundant in fall since Maleur County is one of the stopovers in the Pacific Flyway. The Snake Malheur, Boise, and Payette rivers along with adjoining grain and corn fields provide great waterfowling for both Geese and Ducks. Most landowners will allow waterfowling hunting if permission is asked.
Big game hunting exists a few miles out of town for Deer, Antelope, and Elk. There are guide services available near Vale.
Fishing is to be found year round in the Snake and adjoining reservoirs.
